17th edition of VILNIUS SHORT FILM FESTIVAL greets its viewers renewed and ready to surprise!
From 17 to 19 January in Museum of Photography ŠIAULIAI, Get ready to immerse yourself in captivating and heart-touching stories that will take you into the colourful and wild world of short films.
This year we greet you with a bright new identity, whose strategic and visual solutions are one of the first steps towards the inclusion of audiences, creating accessibility for people with disabilities and other socially vulnerable groups.
Choosing from the repertoire will be a truly rich experience – from stories that bring laughter to those that bring tears, as well as themes exploring anger, love, and passion. This year, the Museum of Photography will welcome the national competition programmes and a special programme that will invite you to explore the colourful corners of filmmakers’ visions. So, there will truly be a lot to watch!

“In thinking about the common denominator for the films in this programme, I felt that the most appropriate word was cold. In all of them, characters are confronted with the cold, literally or figuratively. Whether it is the freezing Siberian climate, a harsh Vilnius night, the indifference of the system, or a painful experience as an emigrant – it is the cold that crawls under your skin. This is relevant and engaging young Lithuanian cinema.” – Andrius Blaževičius, competition programmer.

“Relationships are a common subject in film, but it takes a lot of courage to speak about them authentically, and be able to reflect and take a step away from one’s own experience towards universal themes. Young Lithuanian filmmakers try tackling this task using different approaches: animation, fiction, documentary and experimental. The films in this programme explore dealings with parents, saying goodbye to a dear friend, and the relationship with oneself.” – Mantė Valiūnaitė, competition programmer.
Duration: 85 min.

A colorful selection of ten animated stories will immerse the little ones into a diverse world full of surprises and imaginary frolics. Experience the unique meeting between a white bird in a black world and a black cat in a white world, as well as happy little tiger on a food plate and two adventurous lemurs navigating above the clouds. Or join a class newcomer who is a frog in a class of rabbits. This short film selection is filled with creativity, various animation styles, and the magic of storytelling. The programme is conceived in collaboration with Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival (France).
This program was curated by the ‘Kids Programmers,’ a group of elementary school students aged 7-10 with a keen interest in cinema. Under the guidance of professional film curators and educators, they selected films that were relevant to their interests. ‘Kids Programmers’ is part of the European film festivals network’s “Young4Film” initiative, inspired by the international project Moving Cinema, co-funded by Creative Europe MEDIA program.
