We invite you to get to know photography in interesting workshops!
The workshops offered by the Photography Museum will surprise not only the smallest visitors, preschool age children, but also upper secondary school pupils as well as adults.

There is no doubt that participation in workshops work as art therapy. In the creative process, a person of any age understands and expresses his or her emotions more easily – words are not needed for this, the image says it all. Workshop participants find it safe to communicate, be themselves, ask, comment, and tell stories in the environment that is favourable for creativity. Participants are not required to have high artistic skills, they are encouraged to be here and now, enjoy the attention shown by the educator, consistent narration and explanation of the workshop process as well as to freely and spontaneously free themselves in creation and enjoy the result.

BLUE SUN POSTCARDS

Recommended age group: pre-school age children, pupils in grades 1-12, adults.

Number of participants: up to 15 persons.

Duration: 60 minutes.

It may seem impossible that a simple paper coated with a special solution and sunlight can be enough to create a photograph, but this photographic technique has been known since as far back as the middle of the 19th century and is called cyanotype. During the workshop, having made light-sensitive paper with the tools prepared by us and having composed the image on it, you will observe how it transforms into a blue colour photographic print. You will be able to keep the blue sun postcards you have created as a memory.

THE UPRISING OF 1863: A MISSION FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS

Recommended age group: pupils in grades 6-12.

Number of participants: up to 30 persons.

Duration: 45 minutes.

Do you know why the museum’s funds are abundant with the photographs of the leaders of the Uprising that took place in 1863, but it is practically impossible to find any perpetuated battles? What were the possibilities of the photographic technology at that time? How to identify the symbols depicted in photographs and to decipher the stories behind them?

During the workshop, we will make the portraits of the leaders and ordinary participants of the Uprising of 1863 ‘talk’ and analyse other iconographic sources stored in the Photography Museum like real historians or art critics!

A meaningful journey through the past will provide an opportunity to create a vivid and evocative image of the era of the Uprising, an indelible picture of its heroes, and photography will reveal itself as a powerful medium conveying the spirit of the eras, proving, inspiring and spreading ideas and values.

To carelessly press a button, tap on the screen and share on a social network – that is all the effort needed today, and the world is streaming with billions of photographic images. This is certainly great, but why not try to create something unique and unrepeatable?

During the workshop, we will try out the authentic photography technology in the studio and photo laboratory of the Photography Museum. Using the ‘pinhole’ cameras produced by us, you will create unique and unrepeatable photographs on the photo-sensitive paper and develop them yourself in the photo lab, while the unusual experiences will remain in your memory.

Controlling the light is not an easy task but a very interesting one. The photographer knows various lighting methods, the effects they create and uses them in practice while working in the studio.

During the workshop, you will get acquainted with the classic lighting scheme, professional studio equipment, and try working in the studio yourself. After the workshop, the photos are transferred to the workshop participants in the digital format.

PHOTOGRAM - THE DRAMA OF THE SHADOW IMAGE

Recommended age group: pre-school age children, pupils in grades 1-12, adults.

Number of participants: up to 30 persons.

Duration: 60 minutes.

If someone invited you to take a photo without a camera, what would you think? Would you agree? Or would you think it is impossible? We invite you to make sure that it is very real, unpredictable and interesting!

During the workshop, we will make photograms in a dark laboratory illuminated by red light. The photogram is one of the oldest and simplest forms of photography. This is a shadow image of an object on the light-sensitive paper, obtained without a camera. Creation will begin from the moment when you start laying out your compositions on the light-sensitive paper from the abundance of objects in the laboratory. You can bring your own things and this way make the photogram even more personal. When you are absolutely sure about the composition, your work will be illuminated with the directional light and later developed using special chemical means. This is how the image will appear without a camera! You will be able to show it to others and tell them all about it.
